- It’s not too early to start looking for your prom dress because some designers may take up to 10 weeks to make your dress if it’s not in stock
- Do you have a prom date as yet? It’s great if the guy you really want to go to prom with ask you but lucky for you, we live in a time when we don’t have to wait
- Guys, do you have someone in mind? Just go ahead and ask her so she can begin shopping for her dress and you can begin thinking about your tux
- Decide on a limousine service and plan to share the expense with friends
- Very important – if you are sharing a limo discuss alcohol and drug usage because some schools may turn away an entire group, if one person is intoxicated or if alcohol is found in the limo
- Thinking about firming up? Start working out now…don’t try those quick scheme weight loss program
- Begin your skin care routine- don’t wait to try new products too close to prom
3 MONTHS
- Girls – if you haven’t done this already, please go ahead and order your dress now!
- Once you have selected your dress you can begin thinking about your hair do. If you are thinking of doing an updo, you should begin growing out your hair now
- Guys – please check with your date and order your tux as well
- Begin maintaining your hair and nails
- Need a brush up on etiquette – now is the time to ask your parents about the right silverware
- If you are sharing a limo, now is the time to decide who’s house the limo is going to pick up everyone
- If you are going to a hotel after prom, reserve your rooms now
- Now is also the time to begin planning with all the parents if they would like to host a pre-prom get together for everyone and the parents
- Keep up with your exercise routine
2 MONTHS
- Girls – If you haven’t purchased your prom dress, you are really taking a chance here
- Purchase accessories that will compliment your dress and please remember to buy comfortable shoes
- Guys – please emphasize to your date the importance of getting her dress so that you can go ahead and order your coordinating tux
- Purchase your prom tickets
- Decide with your date, who pays for what
- If you are planning on getting a spray tan and this is the first time you are getting one, please don’t wait. You want to make sure the tone is correct and that you don’t have any kind of reaction
- Talk with your date and decide on the kind of corsage / boutonnière
- Make your hair appointments (2) now (1 for a trail run)
- Make your manicure/pedicure appointment
- Schedule prom dress alteration – remember to wear the undergarment and the shoes you will be wearing with your prom dress
- Still working out? Good job!
1 MONTH
- Finalize plans with your date, friends and your parents
- If you still haven’t purchase your dress, be prepared to purchase stock item because most stores may not be ordering at this point
- If you haven’t had your dress altered, go ahead and schedule this immediately because you want to make sure your dress is professionally altered
- Time to begin breaking in those new shoes
- Confirm your tuxedo was ordered
- Have you had your prom trial hairdo as yet?
- If you haven’t done so, now is the time to order your corsage / boutonnière
- Confirm all your appointments and reservations
- If you are doing your own make up, purchase your make up and begin experimenting
- Let your parents meet your Prom date (if they haven’t already)
- I am sure you are very pleased with the results of your exercise routine
2 WEEKS
- Confirm your hair and nail appointments
- Confirm your limo and hotel reservations
- I know you have your dress at home and it is already altered
- Have a trial prom hairdo by now
- Begin making a list of items you are bringing with you on prom night (camera, tickets, IDs etc)
- Purchase your supplies for prom night (camera, breath mints, etc)
1 WEEK
- Confirm with your hairstylist if you should wash your hair for your appointment
- Go through your “prom night check list”
- Confirm all appointments made for prom day
- Pick up your tux
- Confirm with your friends the time the limo will arrive and the time everyone is expected to be there
- If you are driving, now is the time to get the car washed and detailed
LAST 2 DAYS
- Guys, if you haven’t done so already – get a hair cut
- If you are driving, now is the time to get the car washed and detailed
- If you haven’t already done so, pick up your tux today
- Make sure you are getting your rest
- Pick up your corsage / boutonnière
DAY OF PROM
· Today you will need a lot of patience and keep in mind things may not all go as planned
- Eat a good breakfast
- Be on time for your appointments (if possible, be early)
- Remember to not wash your hair if you are doing an up do (undos last longer with dirty hair)
- Wear a button down shirt for your hair appointment. Hairstylist may be in a hurry but it’s OK to demand that you get the hair style you agreed to or want
- Eat a healthy lunch
- Don’t forget to shave your legs
- Pack your prom essentials: breath mints, lipstick, money, keys, cell phone, camera, prom tickets, corsage, ID and anything else you may need
- If you are doing your own hair and make up, give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours so that you do not feel rushed or pressured
- Now it’s time to slip into your prom dress (or Tux) shoes and jewelry
- Remember to get pictures with your date, friends and of course your parents
- Remember to thank your parents for supporting you for the last 17 or 18 years of your life – after all, look how good you turned out
